varicose veins

varicose veins

The presence of varicose veins in legs is a cosmetic problem that affects million persons. It is very important to realize a medical diagnosis since the vascular pathology can come given by diverse reasons and the treatment will depend on it. The vascular injuries that can appear are: "vascular spiders " or telangiectasias (spillages in the shape of branches under the skin), angiomas, varículas, cuperosis, rosy, capillary breaks … Depending on the size of the vein, the indicated treatment is:

  • Vascular laser (extensive very small veins)
  • Esclerotherapy (extensive veins of intermediate size)
  • Surgery (veins of major size)

These 3 technologies can be performed alone or be combined according to the case.

How does the vascular laser operate?

Dra. Adriana Ribé explains: "The vascular laser eliminates the ectatic vein by the mechanisms known as photocoagulation and fotothermolysis. The photons of the light of the laser have great affinity to a component of the blood called hemoglobin. The laser crosses the cutaneous surface without damaging it, and transforms in heat that is absorbed by the hemoglobin of the disabled vein. The heat coagulates the vein and facilitates its elimination. To a little time, the own body re-absorbs the clot and the various vein disappears ".”The treatment with vascular laser is safe and effective, but it must be realized in a totally personalized way, with the suitable instruments and under medical expert supervision, as advises the Spanish Society of Aesthetic Medicine (SEME) " comments on Dra. Adriana Ribé.

RibeClinic Protocol of vascular laser

The treatment with vascular laser is meticulous and consists of realizing "shots" that follow the whole affected vein together with the application of cold air simultaneously to the shot of the laser to mitigate the inconvenience. After the session of laser a small inflammation takes place in every zone of shot, which disappears gradually within a few hours. After the treatment it is possible to do normal life. It is advisable not to be tanned before the treatment since though the laser does not take affinity for the melanin (pigment of the skin), its energy is absorbed in the venous underlying territory to the skin. On the other hand, it is possible to sunbathe after a few days with solar high photoprotection cream. The number of sessions that are needed changes according to the type of injury, from 1 to 3-4. In some cases, in 1 alone session the organism eliminates the inflammation and the treated vein disappears. cuando las lesiones son iniciales y en número escaso.

Postlaser care

It is recommended to apply topical vitamin K immediately after the session.

As well, use total protection (SPF 50 +) into the treated zones if it is exposed to the sun

It consists in injecting a material (that forms foam) to treat the affected vein. The number of meetings changes according to the affected zone.

Sclerotherapy is a procedure used to treat blood vessels or blood vessel malformations (vascular malformations) and also those of the lymphatic system. A medicine is injected into the vessels, which makes them shrink. It is used for children and young adults with vascular or lymphatic malformations. In adults, sclerotherapy is often used to treat spider veins and smaller-medium size varicose veins.
